Children's Mental Health Week 3rd February - 9th February 2025
The week beginning 3rd February 2025, launches Children's Mental Health Week. Ranelagh and the nation will be learning about having good mental health and ways we can achieve this.
We will be discussing, debating and deliberating about our mental health and wellbeing during the week.
On Friday 7th, we will be having a non-uniform day to celebrate all of our learning around this. On this occasion, there is no donation or cost - just be happy!

The children will exploring the evolution of toys, comparing those from the past with those of the present. As part of this learning experience, we visited the Young V&A Museum, which focused on objects created by and for children. The Museum allowed us a unique opportunity to understand how toys have developed over time, from historical origins to contemporary designs.
A memorable journey through history - Year 6 visit to the Army museum
What an incredible experience! A day where history came alive for year 6—a day filled with hands-on learning, fascinating stories, and a sense of adventure. This perfectly describes our recent trip to the Army Museum when year 6 children spent a day exploring the treasure trove of history with resounding success.
From the moment we stepped into the museum, our children were captivated. The museum's exhibits are thoughtfully designed to be interactive and engaging, making history accessible and exciting for young minds. The children were particularly fascinated by the timeline of conflicts, which showcased the evolution of military technology and tactics from ancient times to modern-day. They eagerly explored real-life artifacts, such as soldiers’ uniforms, weapons, and medals. Each item told a story of bravery, resilience and history.
Guided tours led by passionate experts added a personal touch to the experience. Our guide, a retired military officer, captivated the children with fascinating anecdotes and thoughtful answers to their many questions. One of our kids asked, “What was it like to drive a tank?”—a question that led to an animated discussion about the skills, challenges, and bravery involved in military service.
It was a truly unforgettable day of inspiration and discovery. Our children gained not only a deeper appreciation for history but also a newfound admiration for the brave individuals who serve their country.
What a brilliant way to begin the new term with a theatre trip to the West End. Year 6 children were incredibly lucky to be given the opportunity to see this magnificent production with the help of Newham’s enrichment programme.
The children’s faces lit up as the curtain rose, and the actress belted out ‘Nants antsingonyama, bagithi Baba’ From the opening number to the final showdown, the children were transfixed.
‘ The acrobatics were amazing - how far did he fall?’ said Amira.
‘The costumes , the songs , the set were amazing.’ Sali said
Hopefully, having this brilliant opportunity will inspire the next generation of musicians, singers, set designers and costume designers. We are all waiting with bated breath to watch the end of Year 6 production. I’m sure it will try to match the creativity and ingenuity of this fabulous West End production.

We are delighted to announce that Marwan, a Year 6 pupil at Ranelagh, has won the Panathlon Outstanding Achievement Award!
This incredible honour celebrates students who go above and beyond in demonstrating sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination—and Marwan has truly shone. Competing against nominations from schools across Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, and Waltham Forest, Marwan stood out as a real star.
Marwan has shown incredible commitment to inclusive sports, consistently encouraging his peers, overcoming challenges, and displaying the true spirit of the Panathlon Challenge. His positive attitude and leadership skills have made him a shining example to all.
We couldn’t be prouder of Marwan for this incredible achievement. His resilience, dedication, and sportsmanship are a credit to our school community, and he’s inspired us all. Congratulations, Marwan—you’ve made Ranelagh shine, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next!

Christmas Choir Competition Marching out of the school to the sound of Winter wonderland, the choir confidently settled their nerves as they made their way to Westfield, Stratford. Every Friday, after school, they practised for the seasonal event of Newham Schools Christmas Choir Competition. Mr Murdoch would tinkle the ivories, Mr Williams would conduct and Ranelagh’s wonderful choir would raise their voices in sweet harmony.
Taking in a deep breath, they took to the stage to perform. Their opening song gathered the crowds of Christmas shoppers around the stage - Walking in Winterland echoed around the shopping arcade. The audience cheered and smiled as the choir went through their repertoire of songs, such as Silver Bells, Rocking around the Christmas Tree and The 12 Days of Christmas.

The learning week at Ranelagh began with children coming together in a moving ceremony to honour Remembrance Day on Monday 11th November. The school’s youngest members displayed a deep understanding of the importance of this day, paying tribute to those individuals who sacrificed their lives to bring peace to their country with a two minute silence at 11 o'clock.
Ranelagh Primary School’s Remembrance Day observance was a meaningful event, teaching children not only about history but also about respect, empathy, and gratitude.

Every autumn, the children embark on a journey through geography. Through maps and discussions, they unravel human impacts, realising their responsibility as global citizens ready to embrace environmental change.
Ask any child in Ranelagh and they will tell about what they learned in Geography and how they know they can have their voice heard. Ask them how children at Ranelagh came together with the whole community, raising awareness and uniting in purpose and passion to shape a brighter future.

On Tuesday, Ranelagh Primary School was bursting with colour, creativity, and mismatched socks as we celebrated Odd
Sock Day! This fun-filled day encouraged children and teachers to proudly wear their brightest, quirkiest mismatched
socks as a joyful reminder to embrace what makes us all unique. The day focused on promoting kindness, inclusivity, and
respect for others, in line with Anti-Bullying Week. In classrooms, teachers led discussions and activities on the
importance of celebrating each other's differences and supporting friends. Children were encouraged to share what
makes them unique, which led to thoughtful conversations about individual strengths, talents, and interests.
Ranelagh Primary School's Science Week has certainly inspired a new generation of scientists,
fostering curiosity, creativity, and confidence in the pursuit of scientific knowledge. Ranelagh
Primary School buzzed with excitement this week as children and teachers alike came together to
celebrate Science Week. It was filled with fun, hands-on activities that brought science to life and
encouraged young minds to think like scientists! One parent shared, "I am very impressed with the
children's scientific knowledge and their enthusiasm. It is wonderful to see how excited they are
about science learning!”
Commitment, resilience and pure determination were seen on the pitch of East London Rugby Club on Friday. Ranelagh Year 6 girls had come to compete. Invasion games are part of our curriculum, with Tag Rugby being a game to demonstrate these skills.
The girls' boundless energy and resolve meant that they managed to earn silver medals.

Mr Jordan, the school's coach, stated,' The girls showed real grit and strength of character. Their determination to grab the tags and the strategies they had practised all came into a sensational afternoon. I am very proud of them.'

This month launched the first of our Coffee morning sessions for parents with children with needs. It was good to hear parents are not alone and Newham has lots of activities and workgroups to support them. The fire brigade also dropped in to share how the service can help families who have children with Autism. Lots of information was shared by the parents for the parents.
