Ranelagh earns another prestigious award - Gold Primary Geography Quality Mark
Ranelagh Primary and Nursery School has been awarded a GOLD Primary Geography Quality Mark. The Geography Quality Mark is a prestigious award which recognises and promotes quality and progress in geography leadership, curriculum development and learning and teaching in schools. When analysing the quality of geography at Ranelagh, the assessor noted:
"Geographically meaningful and memorable contexts are provided which allow pupils to accumulate varied learning experiences. There is a very good range of fieldwork done and the children get out and look at the geography of their local area."
One of the main reasons that Ranelagh was awarded this amazing honour was the many opportunities children are given to explore and understand their local area. Children are able to geographically explore the very streets that they live on. Knowing their place in an ever-changing world has been a key priority of developing geography at Ranelagh over recent years, and this was an incredibly strong component to this achievement. Mr Hurrell, Ranelagh’s Curriculum Lead, was overjoyed with the news.
Ranelagh‘s enthusiastic children echoed these sentiments, "It is important that we learn geography because we need to learn about our surroundings and what might happen to them in the future", stated a Year 6 pupil. "My favourite way of learning geography is experiencing it in real life and exploring real places.“ said another. From the edible gardens in their playground, the local streets of its community, to its Forest school, Ranelagh's children certainly know their geographical place in the world.
