Ranelagh Celebrates Diwali
Diwali is a very important festival for many of the families in our school and last week it was joyously celebrated at Ranelagh. The children learnt all about the importance of the Hindu Festival of Lights from a very special visitor, Ms Pramida, from The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), who joined our Friday assembly explaining the meaning and significance of Diwali.
Members of our PTA also attended the assembly, dressed in sarees and cultural clothing, and offered silent reflection by lighting diva lamps and performing puja.

Diwali is often celebrated through the lighting of fireworks, and although we couldn’t set a few off here at Ranelagh, we did decorate our school playgrounds with stunning rangoli patterns. Farhan, in Year 4, loved using different coloured chalks to make his design, explaining “I chose to create a pattern that shows peace and happiness all over the world. It was awesome, drawing all over the playground and I love how we get to be so creative in my school.”
Miss Welburn, Deputy Head at Ranelagh, added that “Celebrating our diverse community is a cornerstone of our curriculum and ensuring there are opportunities for all children to engage and appreciate other faiths is a vitally important here at Ranelagh.” On behalf of all of those who celebrate the Festival of Lights, a very happy Diwali to you all and a wonderful New Year.
