Best Use of J2E Tools - An LGFL Award
Ranelagh has once again come up trumps, bagging another award, this time at the prestigious LGFL Digital Excellence Awards. Held annually, this year’s award ceremony took place at The Mermaid St. Pauls in Central London. The awards celebrate the achievements and successes of London schools in the field of Computing and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
The London Grid for Learning, or LGFL, is a community of schools and local authorities committed to using technology to enhance teaching and learning. Established in 2001 by the 33 London Boroughs, it is a not for profit charitable trust that aims to provide safe, fun, engaging and efficient services for schools and the children therein. The awards are held annually, with a total of 6 categories this year, from ‘Whole School use of LGFL’ to ‘Digital Excellence by Students’ – and Ranelagh triumphed in the ‘Use of J2E tools.’
The application process was detailed and the competition was fierce for this year’s awards. However, not one to shy away from a challenge, our fantastic Computing Lead Mr. Jenkins and his team of Digital Leaders were eager to showcase the brilliance of our Computing curriculum. Once shortlisted for the award, an assessor visited the school to see first-hand the competency of our Computing. In short, he was blown away. “One of the finest London schools I’ve come across,” he said repeatedly, adding “there’s so many schools in London and across the country who could benefit from seeing what you are doing here at Ranelagh.”
The dazzling work of our Digital Leaders, Computing Lead and all the teachers in our school deservedly then won the award for best use of J2E tools. Presented by the now infamous ‘ICT with Mr. P,’ Ranelagh was called to the stage to accept. Judges commented on how, “There is an extensive use of the J2E tool suite within the school. There is a long term development plan and the home school use is clearly embedded… There is good CPD embedded and the school is clearly getting good value for money.”
Ranelagh walked away with a coveted, all-glass trophy which now sits proudly in our cabinet in the foyer and was presented to all the children in our Friday assembly. Well done once again to Ranelagh for yet another prestigious award.
