  • A Week of Adventure

    Published 11/05/17

Year 5 began the Summer term with their annual visit to Fairplay House Outdoor Education Centre. Fairplay House is a unique outdoor activity centre, situated in beautiful rural Essex, and is visited every year by our Year 5 students. Waking up bright and early and departing on a Monday morning, the children were buzzing with excitement, wondering what adventures lay ahead.

On approach to the grounds, the children were amazed at how picturesque the scenery was. They enjoyed their time in the countryside, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the sites. With no time to waste, they quickly unpacked and were assigned their own rooms.

  • The Amazing Race!

    Published 08/05/17

In the Spring term the School Council held yet another successful event in aide of Red Nose Day. Using our newly designed playground at the front of the school, they ran a ‘10p Race.’ Every class brought in 10p coins as a donation for the charity, which were then collected up by members of the School Council. The school councillors then placed the coins, one by one, along lines marked in the playground to measure the total distance accumulated by each individual class.

  • Ranelagh Receives Prestigious History Award

    Published 01/05/17

Once again Ranelagh continues to impress - we have recently been recognised as an outstanding provider of history by the UK Historical Association. The Quality Mark is an award that recognises the excellence of history provision in a school and it assess and values the history provision of the teachers, the curriculum and the school as a whole, as well as what is being offered to children.

Through a rigorous and meticulous analysis of the teaching, learning and provision here at Ranelagh we were successfully awarded the highest honour, the prestigious Gold Award. The assessor spent the day observing lessons and talking to our children as well as analysing our entire curriculum, concluding that we met the criteria for 'gold' in every single category.

  • 'Eggciting' Easter Egg Hunt

    Published 16/04/17

For the second year running our very own School Council held another 'eggciting' Easter Egg Hunt. Taking place over the last few weeks of the Spring term, the children across our school were enthralled with the event, eagerly searching high and low to find cleverly hidden Easter eggs. Behind the flower pot? Underneath the picnic table? Where could they be?

Pupils of all ages loved the challenge of finding a series of Easter themed codes carefully hidden on eggs in the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds and also around the Napier Lodge. Once all the eggs were found and the secret codes discovered, results were then submitted to the School Council who checked whether entries contained all of the missing eggs.

Then, during our Easter assembly, Mrs. Lawrenson and Ms. Welburn took turns choosing random, successful entries out of a hat with the winners each receiving their very own chocolate Easter egg! Delicious!

  • Pitch Perfect Poetry

    Published 06/04/17

Once again Ranelagh was packed full for our annual Choral Performance Poetry. On Wednesday 29th March, children from across the school each performed a piece of performance poetry in a what one parent described as "the best show in town!"

Every year group was tasked with choosing a poem to perform aloud. With so many choices out there, it was tough to narrow it down. Year 5 opened the show with a haunting rendition of Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman, setting the bar high right from the off. Thunderous applause greeted the children as they finished and parents enjoyed the musical interludes from our very own Ranelagh choir, who sang tunes throughout the show, from 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' to the classic 'Video Killed the Radio Star' by the Buggles.

  • Parents Reading Week

    Published 03/03/17

This week was a celebration of our love of reading. There was a range of activities to encourage children to love reading and it culminated in all of us dressing up for World Book Day on Friday March 3rd.

Children need role models for reading and as such we would like to thank all the parents that were able to attend and read with their children. If you were unable to attend, don’t forget you can always do some reading at home. Children who love reading do better at school and are happier, healthier and more resilient.
