  • "Ranelagh Primary School represents all that is best about inclusive practice," director of IQM.

    Published 24/03/21

‘ It is abundantly clear that school and parents together have created an exceptionally strong partnership’ the words of Joe McCann , a director of Inclusion Quality Mark in his report which awarded Ranelagh flagship status for inclusion for a third consecutive year. Eventhough, we have had a year like no other our ethos of inclusion runs through the veins of our School and community.

An incredibly strong PTA support the school

The report states,  ‘ The school is valued by its community and parents and children have great trust and confidence in their staff who strive to ensure that they can “Be the best that they can be”.’

Our outstanding highly successful and inclusive practice could not have been achieved without the amazing leadership of Mrs Patel, Mrs Chowdhury and Miss McDonald - our Inclusion team. Their tireless promotion of excellent practice - supporting teachers, children and parents - is the inspiration to be better. As the report says, ‘ there is a driving passion to support and a high aspiration for all pupils and parents. ‘

Supporting Each Other - Although an inner- city school , Ranelagh is a Forest School

Mrs Lawrenson, the head teacher, said , ‘ This is an incredibly important accolade , especially in these times. We have all needed to lean on each other to get through the year . But we have never lost sight of the future and what our community can bring to that future - kindness, bravery and resilience.’  It is this which drives our inclusive practice. Each individual in our community no matter whether parent, governor, teacher deserve the opportunity to have their voice heard , participate positively in society and make the future that we all want for our children.

The report began with ‘ Ranelagh Primary School represents all that is best about inclusive practice.'  We hope that our voice, our community’s voice and our children’s voice will be heard and the inclusive future in which Ranelagh trails is one in which all the children from Ranelagh can proudly stand. • Express Yourself - Children's Mental Health Week

    Published 05/02/21

This week Ranelagh Primary and Nursery School was awash with different shades of yellow to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week.

The theme this year was to learn about expressing your thoughts and feelings using a range of ways. This could be through art, music, drama and a few cool dance moves. The pupils took this challenge up with extreme enthusiasm using Lockdown Learning  and Google Classroom to share how they could show good mental health.

From singing songs in the Early years to passionate debates in Year 6 the children showed the many ways they could achieve a positive state of mind. Lots of children enjoyed sketching, playing marbles and one even practised beating their own record of solving a rubik cube puzzle as a way of calming down and relaxing.

Even the parents got in with the act and told staff , during our coffee mornings, how they were keeping good mental health.

‘A daily walk in the park helps get rid of mine and the children’s worries’. One parent was brave enough to ‘switch off the television and just talk to each other’.

The week was rounded off by Ranelagh's Friday celebration assembly - a time when we can all come together, become connected and enjoy each others company.

Due to this pandemic, our children are spending long periods indoors and  are unable to see friends and family - now, more than ever, it is important to raise awareness of good mental health and  to encourage our children to talk about their feelings.

    Published 18/12/20

The final week before Christmas is magical in a primary school: Winter fairs, winter concerts , nativities and singing around the Christmas tree. It has been a very strange last week, whilst we continue to deal with the repercussions of the pandemic.Despite this,we wanted to spread some christmas hope and joy and that is exactly what we did.

On Tuesday ,the community raffle was a roaring success with magnificent prizes donated by Sewell flowers, Gand R butchers, Bachay.com Morrisoms and  Protocol. The winners can be seen here.

On Wednesday , it was a Christmas Dinner with Christmas crackers and party hats followed by a very special visitor - Mrs Santa and her helpers. The children’s eyes sparkled in delight as they received their very special gift from Mrs Santa.

On Thursday, we brought a slice of a Christmas concert to you click here. All we can say is thank goodness the children helped out on the School Song - Ranelagh Remedy. Followed by Christmas Parties in the children’s bubbles.

Although this year has been a year like no other, Ranelagh Primary and Nursery school would not have got through it without your patience ,support and kindness. From the bottom of our hearts , we thank you and wish you a very happy holiday and all of the very best wishes for 2021.

  • A Ranelagh Royal Day!

    Published 09/12/20

The Kings and Queens of Ranelagh celebrated a grand royal day as part of their Ranelagh Curriculum topic, Kings and Queens and the Tudors. The KS1 children dressed in royal clothes and marked the day with a range of activities such as Tudor dancing, creating a Tudor Rose out of sourdough and designing their own coat of arms. It allowed them to experience life as a royal and expand on their knowledge of how the royals, like Henry VIII, lived in the past. Sharmeela, from Year 2, said 'I enjoyed making my Tudor Rose as it made me feel like a princess'. Yasin also said 'I can't believe the Tudors would eat only vegetables and meat because they didn't have much food in the past'. Overall, the day was thoroughly enjoyed by the staff and the children as they all enjoyed dressing up in multi-cultural Kings and Queens outfits to celebrate our annual Ranelagh Royal Day!
