  • Ranelagh celebrates World Book Day!!!

    Published 10/03/25

Aliens, Knights, Princesses, Animals, Mad Hatters and an abundance of Spidermen roamed the floors of Ranelagh on Friday. World Book Day 2025 is an important date on our school calendar. It is the culmination of Reading Week, where parents and carers come in to read with their children. This year, the marvellous Mrs Sheikh sourced free reading books for all the children.

There were brilliant discussions with the Year 6 boys about their favourite author - it was a close call between Anthony Horowitz and JK Rowling. They remembered all  the books that they have read in English - Firework Maker's Daughter by Phillip Pullman, When Jessie came across the sea by Amy Hest ,

The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales by Jon Scieszka and The Boy in the Back of the Class by Onjali Q.Raúf- all wonderful pieces of literature. Their favourite, at the moment, is High Rise Mystery by Sharna Jackson.

Ranelagh is remarkably lucky to  have a reading curriculum that inspires children to comment on their favourites. This could not be done without the support they have at home and that was seen by the brilliant turn out for Reading week.

World Book Day is about lighting that spark - and by the costumes on show , on both the children and adults, a flame burns.

As Victor Hugo , author of Les Miserables, says’ “To learn to read is to light a fire”

  • Let's Dance.....

    Published 04/03/25

Children at Ranelagh show Strictly Stars Dianne and Kai their Moves ( and maths and science learning at the same time )

TTLT is a Well Beacon Trust and our schools are always eager to showcase the magnificent things we do to make sure our children are happy and healthy. Each school’s curriculum ensures that physical and mental healthiness is essential. Each school showcases this in a different way : this is what makes our Trust so unique.

You can imagine our absolute thrill when our schools were asked to be part of ‘Let’s Dance’ - a national campaign founded by Angela Rippon CBE to inspire everyone in Britain to embrace dance as a way to improve their health, connect with others and have fun.

Ranelagh’s curriculum uses dance in all subjects. They use it as a tool to assess children’s knowledge and understanding . This allows inclusion for all. The children who find speaking and writing difficult can show their knowledge through dance interpretation . Children who find learning easy are challenged by applying and synthesising  their understanding through art forms. That’s the education bit , but ultimately  ‘Learning is Fun’ as many of the pupils at Ranelagh state.

Ranelagh was privileged to have the brilliant stars of Strictly Come Dancing visit the school and see this in all its glory. Dianne Buswell and Kai Widdrington watched with joy, then joined in as children in KS1 showed them the Number Bond Dance ( creating number shapes with their partners to make 10 ) and they watched in amazement as Year 5 showed their science knowledge of the planets and their understanding about the concepts of day and night through dance. This was all filmed for the BBC’s  One Show and aired on Friday 21st February 2025.

The children and parents were so excited to see their children on the TV . Ranelagh and all the schools in the Trust  are delighted to be part of this wonderful campaign. Dancing can be used in all aspects of the school day and the Trust schools are testimony to this. Dancing makes children happier, healthier and makes learning fun.

  • Inspirational Inclusive Practice -Ranelagh Retains its Flagship Status

    Published 24/02/25

Once again, Ranelagh reigns supreme when it comes to inclusive practice. In February, the school was assessed for retaining its Flagship Status for Inclusion. The assessor was extremely impressed with everything the school does to ensure all pupils are included.

This award is important as it belongs to not just the school but to the community as a whole. Throughout the day, pupils, staff, parents and governors alike spoke with passion about what inclusion means to them.

“We have been blessed to find this school for our daughter”, was just one view of a parent whose child attends the school and how the parent could see how valued her child was in the classroom and in the school.

The pupils talked earnestly about the different programmes offered by the school, the support given to all children and how important the role they play in helping to achieve this.

Staff feel passionate about the inclusive ethos within the school and the assessor noted how all staff work incredibly hard to make sure that all pupils’ needs are met, and pupils make significant progress in their learning.

As a school community, we should be very proud of this accolade, which highlights how each and every one of us are important and included within Ranelagh Primary School.

  • Mental Health Week

    Published 11/02/25

Throughout Mental Health Week (3rd -7th February), Staff and children pulled out all the stops to make sure everyone at Ranelagh felt mentally supported. School Council shared the magnificent things we are doing to keep mentally healthy in Friday's Celebration assembly.

From the week's assemblies to debates, children were given every opportunity to talk about good mental health. We created safe spaces in the playground for children to talk about things that made them sad or uncomfortable.

We learnt that it was okay to feel worried, but how we deal with this emotion is much more important.

By talking openly about our mental health, we were able to challenge the stereotypes and reduce the stigma around poor mental health.

We know that Ranelagh truly is a school that promotes kindness, empathy and inclusion. What a great place to work and learn!

  • Pupil Parliament Takes on City Hall

    Published 10/02/25

What an exciting adventure our TTLT Pupil Parliament team had recently! Our group of enthusiastic pupils embarked on a fun trip to City Hall in the Royal Docks, London, where they immersed themselves in the fascinating world of local government. With eager minds and a sense of wonder, the children were ready to learn about how their local community operates, gather ideas about leadership, and gain insights into how important decisions are made.

As the day began, the children could hardly contain their excitement. The journey to City Hall was filled with laughter and chatter as they shared their thoughts about what they might discover during their visit. When they arrived, the children were greeted with a warm welcome, ready to explore the splendid building that houses the offices of the Mayor and the Greater London Authority.

The tour of City Hall was nothing short of captivating. The pupils were guided through the impressive architecture of the building, which is not only a work of art but also a space dedicated to serving the people of London. The glass dome glistened in the sunlight as the pupils marvelled at the unique design. As they walked through the various rooms, they learnt about the important functions of local government and how decisions are made to improve the lives of residents.

During their visit, the TTLT Pupil Parliament team engaged in interesting discussions about how rules and policies are established to help the community. They learnt that these rules are not simply made for the sake of it; instead, they serve a crucial purpose in ensuring safety, fairness, and cooperation amongst residents. Understanding this connection between rules and the community helped children appreciate the importance of civic engagement and reminded them that they, too, can make a difference.

In conclusion, the trip to City Hall was not just a day out; it was an enlightening experience that instilled a sense of responsibility and aspiration in our TTLT Pupil Parliament team. As they continue to explore avenues for leadership and innovation, we are excited to see how they will apply what they learnt during this memorable visit to City Hall. We hope that this adventure inspires them to become the community leaders of tomorrow, equipped with the knowledge, passion, and determination to create meaningful change. Well done to our pupils for representing TTLT so beautifully and for taking such an enthusiastic step towards understanding the power of leadership!

  • KS1 Visit to Young V&A Museum

    Published 23/01/25

What an exciting adventure our KS1 children had as they delved into the fascinating world of toys! Children  took a fantastic trip to the Young V&A Museum, immersing themselves  in a hands-on learning experience that showcased the evolution of playthings throughout history.

From vintage wooden toys to the latest tech gadgets, our young learners compared and contrasted toys from the past with those that spark joy today. They discovered how toys have not only provided entertainment for children but have also been crucial in development, creativity, and social skills.

Throughout the visit, children had the chance to engage with a variety of objects created specifically for children, which offered an invaluable perspective on design and play. It was heartwarming to see their eyes light up as they learned about how toys reflect the times in which they were created and the importance of imagination in play.

This exploration not only enriched their understanding of history but also sparked exciting conversations among peers about their favourite toys and how they’ve changed!

We encourage our parents and community to ask their little ones about the toys they learned about – you might just uncover a gem of a story or two!

A huge thank you to the Young V&A Museum for providing such an inspiring environment for our children’s learning journey!

  • Year 6 Visit to the Army Museum

    Published 20/01/25

A memorable journey through history - Year 6 visit to the Army museum

What an incredible experience! A day where history came alive for year 6—a day filled with hands-on learning, fascinating stories, and a sense of adventure.  This perfectly describes our recent trip to the Army Museum when year 6 children spent a day exploring the treasure trove of history with resounding success.

From the moment we stepped into the museum, our children were captivated. The museum's exhibits are thoughtfully designed to be  interactive and engaging, making history accessible and exciting for young minds.  The children were particularly fascinated by the timeline of conflicts, which showcased the evolution of military technology and tactics from ancient times to modern-day. They eagerly explored real-life artifacts, such as soldiers’ uniforms, weapons, and medals. Each item told a story of bravery, resilience and history.

Guided tours led by passionate experts added a personal touch to the experience. Our guide, a retired military officer,  captivated the children with fascinating anecdotes and thoughtful answers to their many questions. One of our kids asked, “What was it like to drive a tank?”—a question that led to an animated discussion about the skills, challenges, and bravery involved in military service.

It was a truly unforgettable day of inspiration and discovery. Our children gained not only a deeper appreciation for history but also a newfound admiration for the brave individuals who serve their country.
