Ranelagh explorers conquer the world!
Google Expedition event at Ranelagh
Imagine if you could explore coral reefs, the surface of Mars, or even a trip on board the International Space Station, without leaving your seat? Last week, the children at Ranelagh took part in an event called Google Expedition and got to do just that. The children were transported to the time when Dinosaurs roamed the land, deep under the sea and even travelled to the Great Wall of China! Some children also left planet Earth to explore space and beyond.
The children in our school were some of the first in the country to experience this new virtual reality technology and the excitement was palpable. Donning virtual headsets and a unique set of ‘goggles’ the children were engrossed with what they saw.
The Sun was so close!" said Talesha, a Year 6 child, “ I almost burnt my nose!” The view from the stars was incredible. I can't believe how detailed it was. It felt like I was there!"
Year 3 children delighted in their up close meeting with dinosaurs – so real that some children held out their arms to fend them off.
Ranelagh were joined by pupils from Curwen and Kensington who enjoyed the amazing opportunity. The whole event was led by Ranelaghs own Digital Leaders. Andrew Whittingham, who leads the expeditions for Google, said he had never ran an event that was so well organised- Well done Digital Leaders.
